Union women’s soccer splits trip to Georgia, wins on Saturday 3-2

WALASKA, Ga. - 9/5/2009 - The Union University women’s soccer team moved to 3-2 on the season with a 3-2 win over Reinhardt (Ga.) College on Saturday. Union lost on Friday in to Brenau (Ga.) University 3-1.

In Saturday’s win, Union’s Steffi King tied the match at 1-1 with her goal, assisted by Jill Landers, in the 31st minute. The scored remained 1-1 at the half. Just two minutes into the second half, Union’s Eboni Murphy gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead. Candace Blackard of Union put Union up 3-1 with a goal, assisted by King, in the 57th minute. A late goal by Reinhardt in the 83rd minute set the final score at 3-2 in favor of Union.

Union’s Katie Moser and Mary Jane Garrott split the match in goal. Moser recorded four first half saves, while Garrott had two saves in the final 45 minutes. Union out shot Reinhardt 20-16 in the match.

In Friday’s loss to Brenau, Catilin Zimmerman recorded the goal while King recorded the assist.

Up next for Union will be the first of seven straight home matches on Tuesday, September 8 versus the University of Alabama-Huntsville at 2:00 p.m.
