KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 2/1/2010 - The Union University men’s and women’s basketball teams find themselves in the latest NAIA national rankings again this week. The Union women are at No. 1, a place they have held for 32 straight polls. The Union men moved up one spot to No. 14 this week.
Union’s women (21-1, 8-0) received all 12 first place votes for the third straight week. Their stretch of 32 straight No. 1 rankings spans three seasons, dating back to the preseason poll of the 2007-08 season. Union has won 14 straight games overall, 43 straight TranSouth regular season games and 54 straight home games. Union’s next game is at No. 21 Bethel (Tenn.) on Thursday. Union topped Bethel 80-78 with a game-winning three-point play from this week’s TranSouth Player of the Week, Kaitlin Dudley.
The Union men (16-6, 7-1) moved up just one spot after a 101-60 win over then No. 20 Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.). With the win, Union holds first place in the TranSouth at the midway point of the season. Union and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) are tied in the loss column with one loss each, but Union holds the head-to-head advantage. Up next for Union is a game at Bethel on Thursday, February 4 at 8:00 p.m.
