JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/9/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University baseball team defeated MacMurray (Ill.) College 18-0 on Tuesday. Union improved to 14-2 on the season, while MacMurray dropped to 1-2.
Union continued their dominance early in games by scoring eight runs in the first inning. On the season, Union has scored 40 runs in the first inning over their 16 games.
Junior first baseman Kevin Kirksey was the offensive hero on the day with a 4-for-4 afternoon, including six RBI and four runs scored. A three-run home run in the second inning put Union up 11-0.
Alex Turner and Grant Luke added two hits each, while Turner, Beau Baker and Danny Grimm added two RBI each.
Huntingdon native Colin Hatch (2-0) earned the win with five innings of one-hit, shut-out baseball and five strikeouts. Cody Dew and Ross Garrett each one perfect inning of relief apiece to close out the game.
Up next for Union will be a three-game weekend series at No. 14 William Carey (Miss.) University in Hattiesburg. Union knocked off William Carey 9-2 in a single game at Union earlier this season.
