JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/7/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s soccer program has signed Megan Roney of Barrington, N.J. Roney will enter Union this fall as a freshman.
Union head coach Brandon Boylan says, “We are excited about Megan’s versatility, she is a solid defender and a talented midfielder who knows how to get in the attack. We feel she will come and add depth to a talented defensive group. Megan comes from a great family and fits in well with Union and our soccer program.”
Roney, a 5-foot-4 defender, prepped at Hadden Heights (N.J.) High School where she played soccer, basketball, softball and ran track. In soccer, she was named team captain, MVP and all-conference as a junior and senior. Roney played in the all-star game as a senior and was also named top-20, All-State, All-South Jersey and all-group. Roney was a state qualifier in track and was twice named a scholar athlete and Coaches Choice award winner in basketball.
Off the field, Roney excelled as a member of the National Honor Society, student council president, Principal's List four times, twice a Teacher's Choice award winner, Physical Education award and Honors List.
Roney is the younger sister of Bridget, who is currently a sophomore on Union’s women’s soccer team. Roney is the daughter of Brian and Joanne Rooney of Barrington and is a member of Grace Bible Church.
