JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/4/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team stayed perfect on the season with a 1-0 win over Delta State (Miss.) University. Union earned the Union University Soccer Classic title over Science and Arts of Oklahoma in the fourth tie-breaker. Delta State dropped to 1-1 on the 0-2.

Union was perfect in the classic with a 7-2 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) on Friday night.

Union and Delta State played a tight first half with Union getting the most opportunities to score. Union tallied eight shots, however, none found the back of the net. Delta State recorded just one first half shot.

In the second half, it was more of the same. Union added 12 more shots to just one from Delta State. The Delta State keeper, Faith Wright, proved up to the task with eight saves in the match and keeping Union off the board for 74 minutes.

However, after several close calls, Union finally hit the back of the net on a goal by Rachael Boswell in the 74th minute. Boswell put in the winner after Whitney Kramer assisted with a long pass into the box.

Union goalie Sarah White played 90 minutes and recorded no saves.

Up next for Union will be a road game on Friday, Sept. 10 at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
