CLEVELAND, Tenn. - 9/11/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University volleyball team had their two match winning streak snapped in the Lee (Tenn.) University Classic. On Friday, Union dropped two matches to Belhaven (Miss.) University 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-13) and to Savannah (Ga.) College of Art and Design 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24). On Saturday, Union fell to host and NAIA No. 4 ranked Lee 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18). Union is now 2-3 on the season.
Union and Belhaven played a back and forth match before the Blazers clipped the Lady Bulldogs in five sets. Union was led by Marcela Madeira with 15 kills. Heather Lieberman and Anna Sims added 14 and 10 kills respectively. Emmie Moroski record 47 assists, while Shelby Swink led with four blocks.
Union continued their double-header on Friday against SCAD. Union went down 2-0, but rallied in the third set get back in the match. Union stayed close in a tight fourth set, but fell 26-24. Union’s Lieberman and Sims led with 12 kills each. Moroski had 36 assists. In Saturday's match against No. 4 Lee, Union faced an uphill battle as senior hitter Lieberman sat out. Union fell in three sets to the perennial NAIA power. Kelsey Duling, Union’s libero for the first four matches of the season, stepped into the hitter roll. Duling led Union with seven kills, while Madeira added six kills. Moroski recorded 17 assists, while Sims led with four blocks.
Up next for Union will be a home conference match against Bethel (Tenn.) University on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m.
