JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/5/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team used a late goal to defeat TranSouth Conference rival Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University 1-0 on Tuesday at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union improved to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Freed-Hardeman dropped to 8-4-1 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
Union out-shot Freed-Hardeman 5-0 in the first half, but could not get anything past goalie Tiffany Harris for the Lady Lions. The score remained 0-0 until the 82nd minute of play when Kelsey Gilbert scored on a header with the assist from Whitney Kramer to put Union up 1-0. The Lady Bulldogs held on for the conference victory.
Sarah White didn’t face a shot in her 45 first-half minutes in net. Emily Warren took over in goal for Union in the second half and recorded one save to help Union preserve the shutout. Freed-Hardeman’s lone shot on goal came from Cassie Perkins in the second half.
Union out-shot Freed-Hardeman 12-4 in the match, including 5-1 in shots on goal.
Up next for Union will be another home conference match on Saturday, October ninth at 4:00 p.m. versus Cumberland (Tenn.).
