JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/9/2010 - The women’s soccer teams from Union (Tenn.) University and Cumberland (Tenn.) University did all of their scoring in a span of 19 seconds. The teams tied 1-1 in double overtime in a TranSouth Conference match at Union’s Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union goes to 6-4-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play. Cumberland is now 5-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.

In the first half, Union and Cumberland did not produce many scoring opportunities. Sarah White, the Union goalie in the first half, recorded saves on all three shots she faced. The match remained scoreless at the break. Emily Warren played the second half and both overtimes in goal for Union.

In the second half, the score remained 0-0 until Union was finally able to break through. A goal by Rachel Boswell in the 63rd minute put Union up 1-0. However, just 19 seconds later, Cumberland scored their goal to tie the match. Helena Dimantas Farias found the back of the net for Cumberland.

But just as quickly as the two goals came, the scoring went away. Neither team recorded a goal for the final 27 minutes of regulation, sending the match to overtime.

Both overtime periods passed without a goal being scored setting the final score at 1-1.

White for Union finished with three saves, while Rhianne Parsons recorded six saves for Cumberland. Union outshot Cumberland 17-12 in the match, including 7-4 in shots on goal. Union outshot Cumberland 5-4 in the first half, 9-5 in the second half, and 2-1 in both overtimes.
