JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/9/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team halted their two-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University. Union improved to 9-2 on the season and 2-2 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the TranSouth.
Union scored early and often as Dejan Kostic started the big first half with a goal in the 16th minute on a penalty kick. Eleven minutes later, Union’s Diego Santos scored his team-high eighth goal of the season to put Union up 2-0. Alysson Mohl and Kostic earned assists on the play. Then just four minutes later, Union’s Guilherme Reis found the back of the net with a goal, assisted by Kostic. Union outshot Cumberland 10-1 in the first half, including 4-1 in shots on goal.
In the second half, the pace slowed for Union as both teams managed just one shot each over the first 20 minutes. Union finished the match leading the shot totals 13-3 overall and 5-2 in shots on goal. Rainer Hauss recorded two saves in his 90 minutes in net. Gubby John-Williams had two saves for Cumberland.
Up next for Union will be a road non-conference match on Tuesday, October 12 at Williams Baptist (Ark.).
