Union women No. 1 in 44th straight poll, men fall to No. 16

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/8/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University basketball teams are ranked in the latest NAIA National Basketball Polls. Union’s women hold to the No. 1 spot for an NAIA record 44 straight polls. The Union men drop two spots to No. 16.

The Union women are off to a 23-0 start to the season. This start ranks second best in program history, behind the 35-0 start to the 2007-08 season. The Lady Bulldogs have also won 61 straight TranSouth regular season games (school record) and 45 straight regular season wins (school record). Union puts their 14-game home winning streak on the line Thursday night when they host Lyon (Ark.) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10.

The men’s team dropped two spots in the national rankings and also fell out of a three way tie for first place in the league standings. Union suffered just their second loss in the past 16 games, both coming to No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) Union, now 8-2 in the TranSouth, is in a tie for second place with Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). Union host Lyon on Thursday and then travels to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Saturday, February 12 at 4:00 p.m.
