JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/1/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s and women’s basketball teams are both ranked in the NAIA top-10 in the latest ranking released on Monday. The Union men climbed to their highest ranking of the season, while the Union women are No. 1 for an NAIA record 47th straight poll.
Union’s men just captured a share of the 2011 TranSouth Conference regular season title. Union finished in a tie with Martin Methodist at 14-2 atop the standings. Union does not hold the tie-breaker, and will enter this week’s conference tournament as the No. 2 seed. Union won the previous two regular season titles out right and have won each of the past two conference tournament titles. Union will open conference play on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at home versus Mid-Continent (Ky.).
Union’s women have now won five straight TranSouth regular season titles. The Lady Bulldogs enter this week’s conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. Union has won three of the last four tournament titles and each of the past two NAIA National titles. Union will open conference tournament play on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at home versus Blue Mountain (Miss.).
