Union’s Lamb named conference player of the week

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/4/2011 - Union (Tenn.) University freshman Shelby Lamb has been named the TranSouth Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 3, 2011.

Lamb, a 5-foot-5 outfielder from Shelbyville, Tenn., helped the Lady Bulldogs to a 5-1 week, including a win over No. 7 Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University to end the Trojans' 15-game conference winning streak. Lamb went 9-for-16 at the plate with two home runs and 10 RBI. In the win over TNU, she went 3-for-3 and drove in the tying run in the seventh inning. She also posted an on-base percentage of .650 and a slugging percentage of .938 during the week while reaching base safely in all six contests.

Union, which is receiving votes in the latest national coaches poll, is 22-9 on the season and 12-2 in conference play.
