JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/6/2011 - Sara Johnson of Jackson has signed to play her college soccer with the Union (Tenn.) University Lady Bulldogs. Johnson will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in nursing as the looks to become a nurse anesthetist.
Union head coach Brandon Boylan says, "It is always good to have local talent stay home and that is what we have in Sara. She is one of the best players in the area this year and she has decided to stay close to home and we are very excited about that. She is a smooth player with the ball at her feet. She will add depth in the central midfield and a scoring punch from the wing forward position. We look forward to her development over the next four years."
Johnson, a 5-foot-3 forward, prepped at Jackson Christian School where she played soccer, basketball and ran track. In soccer, she was named all-district four times, MVP of the district tournament in 2008 and player of the year as a junior and senior. Johnson also earned all-tournament team honors twice in the Eagle Classic. Johnson finished as the second all-time leading goal scorer in JCS history with 65, while finishing as the all-time assists leader with 40. Johnson played club soccer for the Lady Flyers and helped lead her team to the state title.
Off the field, Johnson was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Enteract Club.
Johnson is the daughter of John and Punporn Johnson and is a member of first Christian Church.
