Arkansas state champion signs with Union cross country

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/26/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s cross country team has signed Lucas Peiser to a scholarship. Peiser will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in applied linguistics.

Union head coach Gary Johnson says, "We are excited to add a student-athlete the caliber of Lucas to our men's program. Lucas has been coached by an All-American runner from the University of Arkansas and is the defending Arkansas State High School champion. Lucas should compete for one of our top positions as a freshman. Lucas comes from a strong Christian family and an outstanding high school at Shiloh Christian. Lucas will make great contributions to the university and the cross country program."

Peiser, a 5-foot-11 runner, prepped at Shiloh Christian School in Arkansas where he ran cross country and track for four seasons. He helped lead his cross country team to state titles in 2007 and 2009. In 2008 and 2010, his teams finished as state runner-ups. Peiser's 2010 track team also posted a second place finish in the state. Peiser was named all-state four times, participated in the All-Star Meet four times and was a cross country state champion in 2010. In track, Peiser earned all-state and participated in the Meet of Champions.

Peiser was the class Valedictorian, a member of the National Honor Society and was a Wendy's High School Heisman State Finalist.

Peiser is the son of Bob and Alice Peiser and lives in Springdale, Ark. He is a member of New Heights Church.
