JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/2/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team has signed Leventrice Gray of Birmingham, Ala. for the 2011-12 season. Gray will enter Union this fall as a senior and will complete his major in physical education.
Union head coach David Niven says, “We were certainly disappointed to miss out on Leventrice last year but are really excited that he has decided to finish his career here at Union. Leventrice is a great kid that will have an immediate impact on our team. He comes in as one of our best athletes and will really help us both inside and out. He can play the three, four, and five positions. He plays above the rim and will be an asset in the rebounding department.”
Gray, a 6-foot-7 forward, transferred to Union from Jacksonville State (Ala.) University where he played one season. His first two seasons of college basketball were played at Gadsden State (Ala.) Community College. Gray averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game at Gadsden State. Gray prepped at Ramsay High School where he helped lead his team to the Alabama 5A State Title as a sophomore. He averaged 14 points and six rebounds in high school. He was the team leader in rebounds twice and top scorer as a senior. In track, Gray won the high jump and long jump.
Gray is the son of Lamont Saffo and Lou Ella Goodman.
