Union women's soccer tops Delta State 4-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/7/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University women's soccer team defeated Delta State (Miss.) University 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon to improved to 2-1-1 on the young season. Delta State dropped to 0-3.

For Union, this match marked their fourth straight road contest to open the 2011 season. Union has one more road match on Saturday at Missouri Baptist, before playing their home opener versus Lyon (Ark.) on Friday, September 16.

Union scored first in the contest on a goal from Whitney Kramer, assisted by Emily Crane, in the 30th minute. Union led 1-0 at the half and quickly made the score 2-0 just nine minutes into the second half. Union's Christina Reardon scored on an assist from Ashlie Watson.

Delta State answered as they tried to stay in the match. Less than a minute after Union made the score 2-0, Meredith Wilkes scored off a rebound to give the Lady Statesmen their only goal of the match.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of Union until the 75th minute when Eboni Murphy scored on an assist from Kramer. Union added the final goal in the 88th minute when Watson scored on an assist by Reardon.

Union outshot the Lady Statesmen 18-6 in the match.
