Union women’s soccer continues winning ways with 2-0 shutout

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/16/2011 - The Union University women’s soccer team posted a third straight victory in a 2-0 win over Lyon (Ark.) College in their home opener. Union improved to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the TranSouth. Lyon goes to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Union got the game-winner early on a score by Ashley Watson, assisted by Eboni Murphy in the 23th minute of play. Union held the 1-0 lead at the half and maintained that lead until the final minute of play when Terilyn Wassell added a goal to set the final at 2-0.

Union outshot Lyon 11-9 in the match, including 10-5 on goal. Union’s Emily Warren recorded her third shutout of the season, while getting five saves. Stephanie Spiteri added seven saves in the loss.

Up next for Union will be a home game Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. versus Christian Brothers (Tenn.).
