Union’s Ross gets third player of the week honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 12/12/2011 - Lavanda Ross of Union University is the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending December 11, 2011. This is the third time this season that Ross has been named the conference player of the week.

Ross, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Jackson, Tenn., scored a game-high 22 points in No. 2 Union’s win over No. 9 Lee University. Ross had an all around game with seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Ross scored 11 of her 22 points in the final seven minutes of play to help Union expand the Bulldogs lead from six to 15-points.

Ross, a former Jackson North Side High School standout, was 7-14 from the field and hit eight off her nine free throw attempts.

Recently, Ross eclipsed the 1,500-point mark for her career.
