Union men’s golf in first place after second round in TranSouth Tourney

ATHENS, Ala. - 4/23/2012 - The Union University men’s golf team holds the lead in the 2012 TranSouth Conference Golf Championships through two-of-three rounds. The final round will be played Tuesday morning at Canebreak Golf Club in Athens, Ala.

Union shot a first round 302 to jump out to a lead after the first round. Union fired a 301 in the second round and hold on to their lead after two rounds with a score of 603. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) was four shots back after round one, and then shot a second round 298 to pull to with one shot of Union, with a team score of 604. However, Trevecca Nazarene is not eligible for the championship. Union holds a 16 shot lead over the third place team, Blue Mountain (Miss.) who has a team score of 619 after two rounds. Cumberland (Tenn.) is fourth at 622, Bethel (Tenn.) is fifth at 641, Martin Methodist (Tenn.) is sixth at 643, Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) is seventh at 669, and Lyon (Ark.) is eighth at 707.

Union’s Brett Barry is currently in second place with a score of 143. Trevecca Nazarene’s Joey Bradley is first with a 138. Union’s Kyle Long and Blue Mountain’s Michael Collie are tied for third with a 150.

Other Union golfers are Steven Coffelt tied for 11 (155), Charlie Pitman tied for 11 (155) and Ben Waits tied for 19 (160).

There are eight teams and 42 total golfers in the event.
