JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/26/2012 - The Union University Bulldog baseball team posted a 13-4 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College Friday night at Fesmire Field. In what was originally scheduled as a double-header, the rain delayed the start of action, leaving the teams to complete the 3-game series with a double-header starting at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Union senior right fielder Brett Pawlan extending his hitting streak to 11 games with his 1-for-4 performance. Pawlan has hit safely in 19 of his last 21 games.

Union (31-17-1, 12-8-1) jumped out early with three runs in the first inning. Union scored at least one run in each of the first six innings, including six runs in the fifth. Blue Mountain managed single runs in the fourth and fifth, and then scored twice in the top of the seven to keep the game from ending by run-rule.

Junior starter Jared Davis (3-5) earned the win, tossing seven innings allowing four runs, two earned on seven hits with six strikeouts. David Leisey tossed the final two innings, allowing just one hit and no runs with a strikeout. Zane Treadaway (2-5) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings of work. Four pitchers threw in the game for Blue Mountain (22-27, 7-15).

Union was led by Clint Barnes and Cole McAdams with three hits each. Barnes led with four RBI, while McAdams highlighted the stat sheet with an inside the park home run in the fifth. Kody Pinson, RJ Rayborn, and Kian Jost added two hits each.

Blue Mountain had reason to celebrate as they learned that Mid-Continent (Ky.) suffered a loss at Bethel (Tenn.). This meaning that Blue Mountain will earn the sixth and final spot in next week’s conference tournament at Union. This is just their second season of competition after starting the program in 2011.
