Columbia State Pitcher Transfers to Union

Jackson, Tenn. - 8/18/2003 - Eric Vanderburg of Columbia, Tennessee has joined the Union University baseball team for the 2003-04 season. Vanderburg is transferring from Columbia State Community College and will be a junior at Union this fall majoring in Sports Management. He graduated high school in the year 2000 from Columbia Central.

Vanderburg, a 6-foot-4, 210 lb. right-hander, will add valuable experience to Union’s staff. At Columbia State, Vanderburg went 4-3 with one save as a freshman. His 2.75 ERA was tops in the state of Tennessee among all junior college pitchers. As a sophomore, he posted a record of 6-3 with four saves and a 3.20 ERA while leading the team in innings pitched. Vanderburg played his high school ball for Columbia Central where he helped lead his team to four straight (1997-2000) district championships. He posted a 3-2 record as a junior and a 5-2 mark in his senior year with an ERA of 2.95.
