JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/28/2004 - Union University's Stephanie Clark has been named the TranSouth Player of the Week for the week ending January 24. This is the second consecutive week for this honor and it also comes on the heels of her NAIA National Player of the Week selection last week. Clark, a junior from Artesia, New Mexico, leads No. 3 Union with 18.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Clark helped lead Union to a 2-0 week last week, including a win over No. 17 Trevecca Nazarene. Union's overall record is 19-1 and in TranSouth Conference play, the Lady Bulldogs are 6-0.
Clark, a 6-foot-2 transfer from Oral Roberts University, averaged 22 points and seven rebounds per game in Unions two wins last week. She also tallied four assists, four steals, and three blocks. Clark shot 83% (20-24) from the field and 67% (4-6) from the free throw line.
Clark joined Union this fall but didn't play her first game until January 3. Since then, she has been Union's leading scorer (18.8) and rebounder (8.3). With the loss of three-time NAIA First Team All-American Jessica Henson, Clark's addition has been a welcome site for Coach Campbell and the Lady Bulldogs. "She has given us consistency inside, which makes everyone on the team a better player," says Campbell of Clark's first nine games with the team.
Union will host TranSouth foe Lyon College on Thursday, January 29 with the women's game starting at 6:00 p.m. and the men to follow at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, Union's women and men will travel to Lebanon, Tennessee for a conference battle with Cumberland at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
