JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/31/2004 - Cody Overbeck of Munford, Tenn. has signed to play his college baseball for the Union University Bulldogs. Overbeck graduates from Munford High School in May of 2004 and will enter Union this fall as a freshman. Next season, Overbeck will feel right at home as he joins three former Munford High School graduates on the Union squad (Jason Johnson-‘99, Zach Lowery-‘03, and Clint Arthur-‘03).
Overbeck, at 6-foot 185 lbs., is a right handed pitcher and also plays shortstop for Munford. To this point, eight games into his senior year, he is hitting .444 with two doubles, a triple, two homeruns, and six RBI. On the mound, Overbeck is an impressive 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA. In two complete game efforts, he has tallied 12 strikeouts to only four walks and opponents are hitting just .161 against him. In one of his wins, Overbeck tossed a complete game 3-hit win versus Houston High School, ranked No.14 nationally by Baseball America.
To this point in his career at Munford, Overbeck has helped led the Munford baseball team to the district, region, and sub-state championships in both 2002 and 2003. He was named to the All-District Tournament team in 2003. In addition to baseball, Overbeck also played four years for the golf team and one year on the bowling team. He led the golf team to district championships in 2002 and 2003 and also a region championship in 2003.
