JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/8/2004 - Natanya Smith has signed with the Union University Lady Bulldog basketball team for the 2004-05 season. Smith is a transfer from Lee University and is originally from Memphis, Tenn. Smith will join Union his fall as a sophomore.
Smith, a 6-foot-2 center, averaged 11.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season as a freshman at Lee. In the February game versus Union, Smith tallied 17 points and nine rebounds. Smith played her high school basketball at Oakhaven High School in Memphis where she helped lead her team to a 27-3 record as a senior.
Union’s head coach Mark Campbell states, “We are really excited to bring back another quality local player that is great on and off the floor. She has a great work ethic and helps our team improve just by being here.”
Smith joins Whitney Tate (ETSU), Tiffany Fisher (MTSU), and high school standout Crystal Eason (Scotts Hill) as the four new players that are slated to join the Union Lady Bulldogs in the fall of 2004.
