JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/19/2004 - Tim Watson of Hohenwald, Tennessee has signed to play his college baseball for the Bulldogs of Union University. Watson will join Union this fall as a freshman and will major in Physical Therapy.
Watson, a 6-foot-2 right-hander, will be a pitcher for the Bulldogs but also has the ability to play the outfield if needed. While in high school at Lewis County, Watson played baseball and basketball before graduating in 2004. As a senior, he posted a 7-2 record with a 1.28 ERA. He struck out 10 or more batters in seven of his nine games. He is the only pitcher in Lewis County history to throw a no-hitter. At the plate, he hit .415 with 29 RBI and five homeruns last season. He was named All-District in baseball as both a junior and senior. As a junior basketball player, Watson was a three-time player of the week.
Union’s assistant baseball coach Brent Fronabarger, who also runs the Bulldog pitching staff, says, “Tim has a strong arm with good velocity and a lot of movement on his pitches.” Fronabarger adds, “He is a competitor on the field and can expect to throw in a lot of innings as a freshman.”
