OLATHE, Kan. - 9/14/2004 - Gladys Wandera, a senior for the Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball team, has been named the NAIA National Player of the Week. This honor follows her TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Player of the Week awards. Wandera helped Union to a 5-0 start to the 2004 season.
Wandera, a 6-foot-2 senior from Kakamega, Kenya, helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to an undefeated week with five wins, including a 1-0 record in the TranSouth with a victory over Freed-Hardeman University. In the victory over Freed-Hardeman Wandera recorded 31 kills, 6 digs, and 3.5 blocks. For the week Gladys averaged 6.13 kills per game (92 kills, 153 attempts, 16 errors, .497), 1.27 service aces per game, 1.60 digs per game, and 1.07 blocks per game.
Union finished the week at 5-0 and also stands at 5-0 for the season. The Lady Bulldogs played tonight (Tuesday) in Memphis versus Christian Brothers University and then will host Lindsey Wilson College on Wednesday, night at 6:00 p.m. at Union.
