JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/16/2004 - The men's soccer team at Union University dropped their conference opener to Cumberland University (Tenn.) 2-0 on Thursday night. Union falls to 3-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the TranSouth. Cumberland, ranked No. 29 in the lastest NAIA polls, moves to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Union trailed early as Cumberland's Matt Manning tallied the game's first goal at the 3:46 mark in the game. Jason Mazuk of Cumberland added a second goal at the 31:52 minute of the first half on an assist by Mark Arnot. That scored would stand and neither team tallied in the second half. Union goalie, Brian Hamilton record six saves against nine Cumberland shots. Craig Wright for Cumberland recorded the shutout with seven saves on 11 Union shots. A total of 58 fouls, 29 each, were called in the game.
Up next for Union will be a road conference game at Lyon College (Ark.) on September 28. The Bulldogs are not home again until Tuesday October 5 when they host Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.)
