Coach Ralph Turner Ties Record for Wins at Union

Jackson, Tenn. - 1/22/2002 - Union University head coach Ralph Turner tied the school record for coaching wins with his 185 win at Union. In this his eighth season, Turner has an overall record of 185-80 (.698). Turner has tied former Union coach Jim Swope who was head coach from 1975-1987 and tallied a 185-160 (.536) overall record during his 12 seasons. Turner will have an opportunity to take over the record on Thursday night as the Bulldogs host Freed-Hardeman at 8:00 p.m.

Tonight’s win came as the Bulldogs defeated William Carey College 69-59. Freshman guard Bruno Martinessi tallied a double-double on the evening with his 18 points and 14 rebounds. Senior Robert Joseph led all scorers with 20 points. Union’s Will Harris also added 16 points in the game. William Carey’s C.J. McBride led the Crusaders with 19 points. The No. 9 ranked Bulldogs improve to 19-3 overall. William Carey falls to 7-13 on the season.
