JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/2/2004 - Gladys Wandera has been named the TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Player of the Week. Wandera helped lead Union to 2-0 week with wins over conference foes Trevecca Nazarene and Martin Methodist. Union, ranked No. 13 in this week’s NAIA National Poll, remained perfect in TranSouth play at 9-0 going into the final conference match of the season. Union has clinched at least a tie for the regular season title. Union is 22-2 overall this season.
Wandera, a 6-foot-2 senior from Kakamega, Kenya, averaged 6.50 kills per game, 2.00 digs per game, and 1.50 blocks per game on the week. She currently leads Union in kills (448), kills per game (5.74), aces (58), and blocks (111, 1.42/game). For the year, Wandera has been named the TranSouth Player of the Week four times, NAIA Region XI Player of the Week four times, and NAIA National Player of the Week one time.
