Jackson, Tenn. - 1/29/2002 - Union University added another top notch player for the 2003 season when Dyersburg native Holly Haycraft inked with the Lady Bulldogs. Haycraft, currently a senior at Dyersburg High School, will finish out her high school career in hopes of leading her team to the playoffs, having missed post-season play by one game last year.
Haycraft hit for an average of .680 last year with 39 RBI, 12 doubles, 10 triples, and four homeruns. She also stole 58 bases during the 2001 season. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Haycraft struck out only 10 times in 156 at-bats. As Dyersburg’s everyday centerfielder, she committed only two errors and boasted a .980 fielding percentage.
At the end of her junior season, Haycraft received numerous post-season honors, including being named an All-State performer by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and a member of the NFCA (National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association) second team All-America.
Union’s head coach Brian Dunn states, “Holly is a great athlete and a good person that can do the job both on and off the field.” Dunn goes on to say, “We’ve haven’t had a lot of speed recently at Union. She is quick and we are looking forward to her becoming a member of our program.”
