JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/20/2005 - Bethany Burnett has signed to play her college softball for the Lady Bulldogs of Union University. Burnett, a native of Henderson, Tennessee, is currently a senior at Chester County High School where she has been a three-year starter for the softball team under Coach Brandon Pipken. Burnett will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in Marketing.
Burnett, a 5-foot-3 right-hander, won the 2003 Chester County Pitching Award. As a junior in 2004, she was named All-District, All-Tournament MVP, All-State, and Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee. Last season, she posted at 10-2 record on the mound and was just as impressive on offense with a .530 batting average and 36 stolen bases. In 2002, Burnett helped lead the Chester County Dixie Youth team to the state playoffs in 1998 and 2002, with her team capturing the title in 2002. In addition to her on-field credentials, Burnett is a member of the Beta Club, Spanish Honor Society, and the Student Council.
Union head coach Brian Dunn states, “We are really excited at Bethany being at Union. She is a talented player and a top-notch student.” Dunn adds, “She (Bethany) is a good fit for Union.”
