Henry County Player Signs with Union Men’s Soccer

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/4/2005 - Daniel Cathey, of Paris, Tennessee, has signed to play his college soccer with Union University. Cathey is currently a senior at Henry County High School and will enter Union this fall and major in Pre-Med.

Cathey, a 6-foot-1 midfielder, is a three sport athlete at Henry County including soccer, basketball, and football. He is a four-year soccer starter for Coach Brian Belong at Henry County. He currently serves as a Team Captain in this, his senior year. In 2004, he helped lead his team to a runner-up finish in the Best of the West soccer tournament. Cathey led Henry County in scoring as a sophomore (2003) with 16 goals and also as a junior (2004) with 18 goals. Last season as a junior, he was named to the All-Tournament team, All-District, and Mr. Hustle. For his efforts as a sophomore, Cathey was named Best Offensive Player. In football, he was named the player of the week (week 2). He also earned the academic award in basketball as a freshman.

In the classroom, Cathey has received recognition as well. He is a member of the National Honor Society, earned the Who’s Who award, attended Boy’s State as a junior, and is currently in the Top 15% of his class. He as a 3.9 GPA for his high school career.
