JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/19/2005 - The Union University baseball program, under the direction of new head coach Brent Fronabarger, has signed Joel Benchoff to finish out his last two seasons college baseball with the Bulldogs. Benchoff will enter Union this fall as a junior and will be majoring in Business Management.
Benchoff, a 6-foot-1 220 lb. first baseman, is transferring to Union from Onondaga Community College. While at Onondaga, he hit .380 as a freshman and then .340 last season as a sophomore. Benchoff, a native of Williamsport, Maryland, prepped at Williamsport High School where he was a three sport star including baseball, football, and basketball.
According to Coach Fronabarger, “Joel gives us a lot of power and great defense at the first base position.” He adds, “He will be a solid run producer in the middle of the lineup.”
