Bells Native Sets Union Men's Cross Country Record; Women Place Seventh at Vanderbilt

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/19/2005 - The Union University Cross Country teams ran in the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic on Saturday. The women posted a seventh place finish overall and first among NAIA schools. On the men's side, Union's John Fox, a native of Bells, Tennessee, set a new school record for the 8K run.

In men's action, Union's men did not enter enough runners to qualify for a team finish due to two injuries. However, Union’s John Fox (25:58.93) posted an overall finish of seventh place with a time just 44 seconds off the lead. The time of 25:58.93 set a new Union record for the 8K run formerly held by Jackson native Chris Winter (26:49).

Union’s women finished in a very impressive seventh place over and were first among NAIA schools in the Commodore Classic. Lydia Bond (20:32.22) was Union’s top runner with a 27th place finish.
