JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/4/2005 - The Union University Lady Bulldogs and the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions played to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Tuesday down in Henderson, Tenn. Union, playing in their inaugural season, goes to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play. Freed-Hardeman sits at 4-5-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference.
Union scored first on a goal by Chelsie Tharpe, her second of the season. The 1-0 lead was the first lead for Union since their 2-1 win in the season opener over Clearwater Christian. Also, Union breaks their five game scoreless streak with the goal. The Lady Bulldogs led 1-0 at the half, however, Freed-Hardeman scored a goal in the 60th minute to tie the game. After two overtimes, the score remained 1-1.
Back in the pre-season, Union and Freed-Hardeman played in an exhibition game, with Freed-Hardeman winning 3-1.
Up next for the Union women's soccer team will be two road games this Friday and Saturday in Americus, Georgia. On Friday at 2:00 pm, Union will play Gerogia Southwestern, and then will play Southestern State on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
