JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/5/2005 - The Union University women's basketball team earned victory in their season opener with a 78-67 win over Arkansas Baptist College. Union is now 1-0 on the season.
In the game, Union struggled to find their offensive rhythm as they managed just 30-of-70 shooting from the field (.429), including just 7-of-25 (.280) from behind the three point line. Union led 44-31 at the break and led by as many as 20 points in the second half. However, Arkansas Baptist slowy crept back to with seven points with just under four minutes remaining. Union again pulled away to earn the win.
Union was led by Josephine Owins, Ena Daniels, Jennifer Henson, and Tiffany Fisher with 12 points each. Arkansas Baptist was paced by Channing Gordon with 20 points, while Kim Matthews tallied a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Union plays next on Monday night as they travel to McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill. for a 7:00 pm game.
