NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 12/6/2005 - Ben Frederick of Union University is the TranSouth Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 4, 2006.
Frederick, a 6’10” junior center from Memphis, Tenn., helped lead the NAIA No. 6 Bulldogs to a 2-1 week against three teams ranked in the NAIA Preseason Top 19. Frederick just missed three double-doubles in the two road games and one neutral site game. In their 66-64 win at No. 11 Lindsey Wilson Frederick had 23 points and nine rebounds along with a block. It was the first loss of the year for Lindsey Wilson. Union suffered their first loss of the year in a neutral site game in the Houston Space City classic 92-86 to No. 10 LSU-Shreveport. Against undefeated LSUS Frederick hit 11-of-15 shots from the field on his way to 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks and hit both of his attempts from the foul line. In their 71-66 win over No. 19 Houston Baptist in the Houston Space City Classid, Frederick scored 14 points and added eight rebounds, four assists, four blocks and hit all four of his free throw attempts. Frederick averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game on the week while shooting 60% (27-45) from the field and 88% (7-8) from the free throw line. Union is now 10-1 on the season.
