JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/7/2006 - The Union University softball team earned two more wins as they swept the Lambuth University Lady Eagles on Tuesday 6-1 and 1-0 at Union's Fesmire Field. Union improved to 9-3 on the season and have won seven of eight games. Lambuth dropped to 6-8 on the season.
In the first game, Lambuth jumped on top in the first inning with a run on a wild pitch by Union's Mary Kosco (4-2). After that, Lambuth was held scoreless for the rest of the evening. Union added one run each in the bottom of the second and third innings, and two runs each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Kosco, for the second time in four days, recorded 15 strikeouts. Her 15 strikeouts was just one shy of the Union record of 16 K's in a game. Union's Danielle Pope, in her first game back from an injury, hit her first home run of the season. Pope set a Union record for home runs in a season last year with 14.
In game two, Union scored a run in the bottom of the third inning. Amy Chatham led off with a double and then scored on a one out single by Candace Cross. Union's Chrissa Norton (3-0) earned the win as she tossed seven innings of two-hit ball while recording seven strikeouts.
