Union Baseball Tops Bethel 5-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/5/2006 - The Union University baseball team pounded out 14 hits on their way to a 5-1 win over Bethel College (Tenn.) on Wednesday afternoon at Union's Fesmire Field. Union, winners in 11 of their past 15 games, improved to 25-15 on the season. Bethel falls to 19-14 on the year.

Freshman pitcher and Millington native Zane Adams tossed his second complete game in a row and improved his team best ERA to 3.66 and record to a team best 5-1. Adams allowed just four hits and one run over his nine innings, while striking out five batters. Offensively, eight of the nine starters recorded at least one hit, led by former Munford player, Zach Lowery's 3-for-5 performance.

Union scored two runs in the second, two runs in the fourth, and one run in the sixth inning on their way to a 5-0 lead. Bethel broke through on the scoreboard with a tally in the top of the seventh.

Union will step back into TranSouth Conference play this weekend as they travel to Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) for a three game set this weekend. Union is currently sitting at 4-2 in the conference, just two games out of first place.

In other notes, Union sophomore standout and for Humboldt High School star Judson Powers, was named the TranSouth Player of the Week on Monday. Today, Powers earned the NAIA Region XI Player of the Week honors.
