Union Softball Signs Crockett County Standout for 2006-07 Season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/15/2006 - The Union University softball team has signed Crockett County High School standout Candice Thompson. Thompson will join Union this fall as a freshman.

Thompson, a 5-foot-8 shortstop and catcher, prepped at Crockett County High School were she was a three-sport athlete including softball, volleyball, and basketball. In softball, she was named All-District and All-District Tournament in each of her four seasons of play. Thompson also was named All-West Tennessee as a freshman and Team MVP as a freshman and sophomore. She helped lead her travel team, the Northwest Tennessee Spirits, to the USSSA State Tournament and was named the MVP of the tournament. In volleyball, Thompson was a four-time All-District player and a three-time All-District Tournament performer. She was also named District MVP as a sophomore, Region MVP as a senior, and All-State MVP. In basketball, Thompson was named to the All-District Academic team as a senior.

Thompson excelled in academics, as well as athletics, while at Chester County as she earned the honor of Valedictorian of her class with a 100.39 grade average. She was a member of the Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Thompson also earned such honors as Academic Gold Bar, Academic Letter, Most Athletic, Who's Who, Captain's Council, Girl's State, Principal's Honor Roll, Honors English, Star Student, Crockett Youth Leadership, and Basketball Homecoming Queen.
