JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/7/2006 - The two-time defending TranSouth Conference Champions continue to bolster their roster with the addition of junior college transfer Ryan Merriman. Merriman, a native of Chattanooga, comes to Union from Chattanooga State Community College. He will enter Union this fall as a junior and will major in Business Finance.
“I was impressed with the Union coaching staff,” stated Merriman. “I feel like Union University is a great fit for me and a great place to finish my college career.”
Merriman, a 6-foot-6 220 lb. forward, spent two seasons at Chattanooga State where he averaged 12 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. He was named to the junior college All-State team. Merriman prepped at Chattanooga Central High School and was named the District 6 AAA Player of the Year as a senior.
Ralph Turner, head coach for the Union Bulldogs is excited about the addition of Merriman to this year’s roster. “Ryan is a big, strong player that can spread the defense with his ability to shoot the basketball. He will also be a very good rebounder for our team.”
