JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/22/2006 - After completing the most successful season in the eight-year history of the program, the Union University men’s soccer team enters the 2006 season listed 29th in the NAIA preseason rankings.
In 2005, Union advanced all the way to the NAIA Region XI Championship Game for the first time in the program’s history. In that game, Union fell 3-1 to eventually NAIA National Champion, Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.).
Mid-Continent College (Ky.), a newcomer to the league this year, has been picked to win the TranSouth Conference and sits No. 19 in the national rankings. Defending NAIA National and Region XI Tournament winner Lindsey Wilson is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA.
Union returns all but one starter from last year’s team so the expectations are high in 2006. The Bulldogs open the season in Florida with games on August 28 and 29. Union’s first home match is an exhibition match on September 8 versus Fisk University at 2:00 pm.
