Two-Time Defending Conference Champs Picked to Win in 2006-07

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/11/2006 - The TranSouth Athletic Conference men’s basketball coaches have tipped Union University as the preseason favorite for the upcoming 2006-07 basketball season. The Bulldogs have been the regular season conference co-champion and conference tournament champion in each of the last two seasons. Union gathered 99 points and nine of the ten first place votes.

Second-year TSAC member Crichton College impressed a year ago and earned enough votes (81) to place second on the preseason list. Crichton, who received the polls other first place vote, shared third place in the conference a year ago and made some noise in the top 25 during the year. TranSouth newcomer and 2005-06 National Tournament participant Lambuth University is one point behind Crichton in third place. The former Mid-South Conference power returns a core of their national tournament team. After sharing the conference title the last two years, Trevecca is picked fourth in the preseason poll with 74 points. The Trojans are followed by Lyon College, Cumberland University, Martin Methodist College, Freed-Hardeman University, and the poll rounds out with conference newcomers Bethel College and Mid-Continent University.

Last season, the Union Bulldogs earned their eighth NAIA National Tournament appearance in the past nine years.
