MEMPHIS, Tenn. - 2/20/2007 - The Union University softball team, who received votes in the NAIA Pre-season Softball Rankings, opened the 2007 season with two road wins at Crichton College (Tenn.). Union won the first game 8-5 and took the second 10-4. More importantly, Union posted these wins over a TranSouth team to start the conference season 2-0 as well.
Junior lefty Cassie Turley (1-0) recorded the win in game one. Amy Chatham posted three hits with a double and two RBI. Ashley Walters and Kristen Kolter went 2-for-4, while Brandy Hoffman tallied a homerun and three RBI.
Game two saw the freshman left-hander Haley Lyles (1-0) from Brighton post the win in relief of starter Bethany Burnett. Chatham and Kolter each slapped homeruns, while Walters and Kristen Kirk recorded doubles in the game for Union.
Up next for Union will be a two more conference games at Bethel College in McKenzie on Friday, February 23.
