Union Men Boast Four on All-Conference Teams

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/28/2007 - The TranSouth Athletic Conference released the 2006-2007 men’s basketball all-conference team and postseason awards on Tuesday. The Union University men’s basketball team had four players to receive honors. Mack Bealim and Deywane Lee were named first team All-Conference performers. Pierry Valmera was named second team All-Conference, while Tacuma Alexander was named to the All-Freshman team.

Bealim, a 6-foot-5 senior guard from Livingston, Alabama, led Union with 14.4 points per game. He also grabbed 6.1 rebounds per game and was 48-percent (26-54) shooter from behind the arc. Bealim has started all 28 of his games played for the Bulldogs and has posted double figures in 23 of those games, including 10 games in a row. Bealim also ranks No. 2 in the conference with a .514 field goal percentage.

Lee, a 6-foot-8 senior forward from Memphis, is just shy of averaging a double-double for the season with 9.7 points and a team-high 9.6 rebounds per game. Lee ranks No. 1 in the TranSouth and No. 9 in the NAIA in rebounds per game. He led Union with seven double-doubles on the year and grabbed 10 or more rebounds in 13 games.

Valmera, a 6-foot-8 senior center from Haiti, was second on the team with 13.6 points per game and 1.1 blocks per game. He also grabbed 6.1 boards per game on the season. Valmera ranks No. 4 in the TranSouth with 50-percent shooting from the field.

Alexander, a 6-foot-3 freshman guard from Memphis, has played in 27 of the 29 team games this season for Union. He has started in each of the past 11 games and has posted double figures in three straight games. His career and season high of 16 points came in the win over No. 9 Lambuth to help secure a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. Alexander is averaging 5.0 points per game, but over the past 11 games that he has started, he is posting eight points per game.

Union opens the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Thursday night at home as the No. 2 seed. Union will face area rival Freed-Hardeman University at 7:00 pm.
