JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/27/2007 - The Union University women’s cross country team has signed Kayla Hauss to run cross country. Hauss, a native of Saltillo, Mississippi, will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in Pre-Med.
Hauss prepped at Saltillo High School where she was the 2002 and 2003 Mississippi Cross Country 4-A State Champion. In 2004, she won the state title in the 3200 track. Hauss ran the 800 in 2:27, the 2-mile in 12:07, and the 5K in 19:46.
"Kayla brings state level competitive experience to our team and a great spirit for others and her family”, states Union head coach Gary Johnson. “She has shown in the recruiting process a real desire to know her future teammates before making such a big decision about where she wanted to spend the next four years of her life. Her parents are very involved with the high school program and we look forward to their spirit on our team too. We have really enjoyed our connection with Coach Covington and Saltillo High school and hope it continues for many years."
Hauss has also excelled in the classroom. She has a 4.0 GPA and will graduate as Valedictorian of her class. Hauss was selected as a Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalists.
