Jackson, Tenn. - 5/7/2002 - The Union University soccer program signed North Side’s Jared New for the 2003 season. This is the second local player to sign with the Bulldogs in as many weeks.
Jared New, a 6-1 striker, will give the Bulldogs a boost on the offensive end of the field. So for this season at North Side, New has scored 24 goals and tallied 12 assists in 14 games. New has been a four-year starter in high school and has scored over 65 goals and dished out over 40 assists. He is averaging 1.7 goals per game and 1.2 assists per game in 2002. New set a North Side record when he scored four goals in a game versus South Side. He has been named to the 13AAA all-district team each of his four high school seasons, as well as, Best of the West all-tournament his junior and senior year. New has served as North Side team captain for two seasons.
Union head coach Dr. Darin White is excited about the addition of New. “He is a great student athlete and will have the chance to contribute to Union’s success in 2003.” White goes on to say, “It’s nice to have local players on the team and we’ve added two good ones for next season.” The other local signee was Christopher Anthony of JCM.
New has excelled off the field as well, as he is student body president at North Side. He was voted best all around and was also selected as a Wendy’s High School Heisman Nominee and the JEA Student of the Year.
