JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/5/2007 - Ashley Walters of Union University has been named an NAIA Softball All-American for the 2007 season. Walters, in her first season with Union, adds this second team All-American honor to her TranSouth and NAIA Region XI Player of the Year honors.
Walters, a 5-foot-8 junior from Rockville, Indiana, led Union in several offensive categories including batting average (.456), runs scored (58), hits (88), doubles (19), triples (7), stolen bases (23), slugging percentage (.782), and on-base percentage (.483). Walters was also second on the team with 10 homeruns and 55 RBI.
On the season, Walters was named TranSouth Player of the Week once, first team All-Conference, TranSouth Player of the Year, first team All-Region, Region XI Player of the Year, and now NAIA second team All-American.
Walters helped lead Union to a third place finish in the NAIA Region XI Tournament. For Union, this marked their 10th region tournament appearance in the past 11 seasons.
