Union Softball Adds Transfer to 2007-08 Roster

JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/6/2007 - Union University softball has added Brittany Burkett to the team for the 2007-08 season. Burkett is a transfer from the University of Tennessee-Martin. She will enter Union this fall as a sophomore and will major in Education or Sports Management in hopes of teaching and coaching after college.

New Union head softball coach Heather Ford was assistant coach at UT-Martin last season during Burkett’s freshman season.

Burkett, a 5-foot-5 utility player, has played right field, left field, and third base in her career. Burkett transferred to Union after one season of softball at the UT-Martin. Burkett prepped at Bolton High School where she played four seasons of softball. She helped lead her team to district and region titles from 2003-2006 and a state final appearance as a senior. Burkett hit .486 as a senior and was named team MVP. During her career, she was a three-time Best of the Preps, twice named first team All-District, Best All-Around, Rookie of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.
