Union Women's Soccer Opens Season with 7-1 Victory

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/21/2007 - The Union University women's soccer team opened their third season of varsity competition with a 7-1 win over NCAA Div. II Christian Brothers University (Tenn.). The Lady Bulldogs soccer team has now won the season opener in each of their first three seasons.

After a scoreless first 25 minutes of play, Union exploded for three goals in a span of 10 minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Christian Brothers added posted their only goal of the match just before half. In the second half, Union added four more goals including a penalty kick goal by sophomore Candice Blackard.

Union received goals from Caitlin Zimmerman (2), Nikki Burau, Sam Gase, Brooke Walker, Eboni Murphy, and Blackard. Gase and Murphy are both freshman for the Lady Bulldogs. Union goalie, Laura Pla recorded seven saves in 80 minutes of play. Katie Moser finished the game between the post.

Union plays again this Saturday in Shreveport, Louisiana versus LSU-Shreport. Union's next home match will be Tuesday, September 4 versus TranSouth and area rival Bethel College (Tenn.).
